Aardwolf Lifter Auto - AL30A
Overview
The Aardwolf AL30A is an automatic stone slab lifter engineered for handling thin granite and marble slabs within a 0–30 mm grip range. As the model with the narrowest grip range in the Aardwolf AL Auto series, it is intended for applications where accurate clamp placement and controlled handling of thinner stone materials are important.
Its compact front-clamping configuration allows the lifter to engage slabs from the exposed edge, including materials stored closely together in racks or positioned near vertical surfaces. A gravity-operated locking mechanism automatically develops clamping force when lifting begins, while integrated rollers assist with alignment along the slab edge.
The AL30A has a Working Load Limit of 1200 kg and is suited to fabrication workshops, stone warehouses, container handling operations, and installation work involving thin natural stone slabs.
Operating Principle
The lifter is positioned centrally on the upper edge of the slab, with the material fully inserted between the gripping surfaces.
When upward force is applied through a crane or hoist, the gravity-controlled mechanism engages and closes the clamp around the slab. The gripping action remains active while the load is suspended.
After the slab is placed on a stable supporting surface and the lifting force is removed, the mechanism resets automatically, allowing the lifter to be removed without manual unlocking.
Engineering Features
- Gravity-operated automatic locking: The clamp engages automatically as lifting force is applied, eliminating the need for a separate manual locking step.
- Grip range for thin slabs: The 0–30 mm opening is intended for thin granite, marble, and comparable natural stone slabs.
- Integrated positioning rollers: The rollers help guide the lifter along the slab edge, allowing the operator to align the clamp with the slab’s centre before lifting.
- Front-edge access: The clamp can approach the exposed edge of slabs stored in racks, containers, or closely spaced storage arrangements.
- Automatic release after set-down: The mechanism disengages after the slab is fully supported and the lifting force is removed.
- Compact mechanical construction: The narrow body is suited to areas where clearance around the slab is limited.
- 2.5:1 design safety factor: The lifter is engineered with a 2.5:1 design safety factor. This does not permit operation above the rated W.L.L.
Recommended Applications
- Handling thin granite and marble slabs
- Stone cutting and fabrication workshops
- Slab storage rack operations
- Loading and unloading shipping containers
- Stone installation near walls or vertical surfaces
- Indoor material handling using cranes or hoists
Frequently Asked Questions
What slab thickness can the AL30A handle?
The AL30A is designed for slabs between 0 and 30 mm thick.
Is the AL30A intended for heavy slabs?
Its W.L.L. is 1200 kg, but its main distinguishing feature is its narrow grip range for thinner slabs. Load weight must always remain within the rated capacity.
Does the operator need to lock the clamp manually?
No. The locking mechanism engages automatically when lifting force is applied and resets after the slab is set down.
Why does the AL30A include rollers?
The rollers allow the lifter to move along the slab edge before lifting, helping the operator position it centrally.
Can the AL30A be used for slabs thicker than 30 mm?
No. Slabs thicker than 30 mm require a model with a wider grip range.
Will the contact pads mark the stone?
The rubber-lined contact surfaces are designed to reduce marking under normal operating conditions. They must be kept clean and inspected regularly.
